Levi & Korsinsky, LLP is investigating possible misleading advertising of Kinesiology Tape, an elastic sports tape frequently marketed as providing pain relief and muscle support. Many manufacturers claim Kinesiology Tape can be used to treat, and even prevent, a vast array of injuries, including sprains, strains, plantar fasciitis, lower back pain, knee pain, shin splints, and carpal tunnel syndrome, to name just a few. But unlike traditional sports tape, which is commonly wrapped around parts of the body to provide compression and support, Kinesiology Tape is stretched and stuck onto the skin on certain parts of the body, providing no compression at all. Popular brands of Kinesiology Tape include: Kinesio, KT TAPE, RockTape, Mueller, Curad, SpiderTech, and Skinetex, among others. Reliable scientific evidence indicates Kinesiology Tape fails to live up to many of its manufacturers’ promises and may provide nothing more than a placebo effect. If you have tried Kinesiology Tape and were disappointed with the results, our investigation may matter to you.
