Levi & Korsinsky LLP is investigating potential claims against the Honest Company for misleading marketing and labeling of certain cleaning and personal care products. The Honest Company, founded by Jessica Alba in 2011, sells an array of products that it promises are safer, more gentle, and more natural than other brands. However, recent product testing and a close examination of the ingredients in Honest’s products undercut Honest’s claims.
For example, Honest promises its laundry detergent, dish soap, and multi-surface cleaner are made without harsh chemicals, including SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), a chemical that can irritate skin. Honest claims that instead of SLS, it uses SCS (sodium coco sulfate). However, this claim is misleading because SCS actually contains SLS. In fact, the Wall Street Journal recently reported that it had Honest’s detergent tested by an independent laboratory and results showed a significant amount of SLS in the product.
If you’ve purchased Honest’s cleaning products believing they avoided harsh chemicals like SLS, you should learn more.
